Amsterdam-based artist, Judith de Leeuw or better known as JDL StreetArt closes a mega-deal for four works on behalf of the Swiss Idoneus for 2.5 million in cryptocurrency.

Idoneus is an online marketplace for luxury goods. It is a record amount for the work of JDL StreetArt, who draws attention to social themes with her murals. On her Instagram she responds this, “I thought a lot about spending the rest of my life on a tropical island, but realized that that would never make me happier than the modest life that I am living right now. The reason why I experience joy in life is because I feel like I am making a contribution to our society. That is why I am donating $1million of the cryptocurrency to ‘Gioca con il cuore’ a charity that helps children smile during, for instance, cancer or child services”.

Will buying art with cryptocurrencies be the future?

JDL belongs to the new generation that sees opportunities in cryptocurrency. Instead of payment in euros or dollars, she chose for payment in Idon token. The token is the payment method on the Idoneus blockchain.

There are more artists that are starting to work with the blockchain. For example, artist Dadara who also participated in the “Naar de gallemiezen, an Amsterdam love story exhibition“. At the beginning of November, Dadara released his second NFT called “Cryptogreyman”. NFT stands for “non-fungible token.” At a basic level, an NFT is a digital asset that links ownership to unique physical or digital items, such as works of art, real estate, music, or videos. NFTs can be considered modern-day collectibles.
