At ASA we work on all kinds of projects, from big festivals and award shows to small murals or workshops. Every now and then, we like to highlight one of these projects to give a better idea of the diversity of what we do. One cool project we recently pulled off was ‘A Spray at the Park’. Every summer, Amsterdam’s Vondelpark gets a few extra dixi toilets. Useful, sure, but never much to look at. Thanks to Stadsdeel Zuid we finally got the chance to change that.
So we put out an open call and gathered twenty spray paint artists. Although it rained a bit that day, the mood was good. There were four locations where extra toilets had been placed. At each location, five artists worked together on their fence within one shared color scheme. Every artist received ten cans in that palette and was free to bring their own paint as long as it matched the colors of their location. The ASA team took care of hanging all the banners on the fences, which turned out to be quite a job.
Once the artists started spraying, the dull fences turned into something worth seeing. The coordinated color schemes made sure that, even with twenty different styles, everything still felt like one cohesive project that blended naturally with the park. By the end of the day, the park looked brighter and more alive. When it was all done, there was beer and pizza waiting, a simple finish to a wet but solid day of painting.
